Even after taking out his "insurance policy against democracy," it's important to remember Senator Lieberman still has the lead. He's still a lapdog, and we're still underdogs. As Tom Swan (the campaign manager) said in an email that went out today:
[T]he only thing better than the people of Connecticut getting an opportunity to reject President Bush's energy policy, Supreme Court nominees, and failed plan in Iraq, is an opportunity to reject it twice. ... But it's only possible with your continued, and re-doubled support.
The elephant has been sitting in the room for some time now, and we've always had a plan for the eventuality that Senator Lieberman left the Democratic Party. I'm sure you know that. But you probably also knew that when it happened, we'd need you more than ever.
You've already invested so much, that it's tough to ask for me. And I'm not only refering to a
monetary investment, there's so much more you can do.
1.) Support the local CT bloggers. Visit their sites. Comment on their entries. Forward them to your friends. Link them on your own blogs. These sites are read daily by the traditional media. Here's a list of local bloggers, links, feeds, and an opportunity for you to forward that list to others intersted in the CT election (LINK)
2.) Write a letter to the editor of your local papers talking about today's events. (LINK)
3.) Many of you have already contributed, but why not take the next step and create a personal fundraising page, setting a goal and asking your friends, family, and personal networks to help you reach it? Senator Lieberman has all the corporate lobbyist and PAC money he'll ever need. We're counting on small dollar contributions to help win this August/November (LINK)
4.) Were you a Meetup member? Why not bring the old gang back to life and organize an event for Ned? Play any number of the campaign videos, ask people to write letters and create their own personal fundraising pages. If you don't have your own contested senate race, why not? You have the tools to create and promote events for Ned (LINK)
It's been a long one, and I'm finally winding down from the festivities. But let me share one more tale from the day. We were sitting in campaign headquarters today, and I turned to a member of the field staff with a big smile on my face and said, "you know why this is so great? because millions of people are going to read this story and recognize people have the power to hold our elected officials accountable for their votes."
That's us. That's you. That's the CT bloggers. That's thousands of volunteers. We are not "radicals," "weirdoes" "terrorizers" on a "jihad." Just people who care deeply about the direction of the country. And while today is an affirmation of our efforts, we still trail. And we need your help now more than ever.
