Contact info to help Refugees coming to Michigan

Sun Sep 04, 2005 at 01:54:59 PM PDT

I just called the Mayor of Detroit's office, and received a phone number for people to call to help refugees(victims) that will be coming to Michigan. 1-800-241-4949. I spoke to a wonderful lady who said they are receiving many calls. I'm sure many many people will be needed.

Look at what you do and use in your everyday life. These people will need OUR help every step of the way. My goal is that everyone ends up with better lives (if possible) then what they started with.

Come on Michigan.... show Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama how much we care!

...but I'd look more toward working through the state/governor's office.  I think there's contact info right on the state's mainpage (www.michigan.gov) on what you can do to help.

Sorry, but under the soon to be one-term Kilpatrick administration, they just haven't performed up to a level that makes me think they'll do this well.

I just added myself to the Michigan state data base also. The number is 888-535-6136. I'll add my name to any other Michigan data base that will help. Please give me a heads up if you find any.

I live way north of Detroit, and we aren't getting a lot of contact info up here.

...that the state is providing temp housing at Fort Custer over by Battle Creek, although I'll bet other folks will need housing as well.

Bay County here. Please drop a line if you hear anything. Thanks for the link. I'll try and learn what I can about the 'paperwork' it requires to get their lives back.
The first thing off the top of my head, after the life and death thing are SS cards. I'm making copies off the internet of SS request for the cards with envelopes and stamps. It's MINDBOGGLING looking at one uses and needs.
