I think what is needed to keep this scandal in the public attention is a continued media presence through grass-roots media involvement.
We know that any missing blonde will take the media's attention off the ball at what may be a critical moment. But what will work? Humor and candor in a readily-available public format. Advertising.
The pitch: "WHAT WOULD YOU TRUST KARL ROVE WITH?"
Try this on for size. Those of you who work in advertising will have more specific ways of accomplishing this, but here's what I have for starters. I see the ads as enigmatic, with a weekly 'build':
1st week: "WHAT WOULD YOU TRUST KARL ROVE WITH?"
Simple words, lots of empty space around the words, maybe the words on a newspaper page would take up no more space that what I have typed (which appears to be some kind of 12-point Courier).
2nd week: "WHAT WOULD YOU TRUST KARL ROVE WITH?"
(answered with the background of the ad being the object in question, for example, a bicycle or sandwich. And you don't ever name the object, either, for maximum congnitive effort. Objects are mundane and dissonant to the visual impact of the words, like a hamburger)
3rd week: "WHAT WOULD YOU TRUST KARL ROVE WITH?"
(backgrounds are: a shot of our kids gathered around the tank they're serving in in Iraq. A busy city street. Finally, the American flag)
These ideas can definitely be improved. But they're the first ones I have right now, seeing the Rove story begin to sink the slightest bit in the public attention. Two final points:
1) I am not in advertising.
2) I realize the question ends with a preposition. I had an English teacher who used to come into the room chanting the helping verbs. I'm willing to sacrifice our language a little bit to keep our country.
Oh, first diary. Hope you enjoyed it.
