DIARIES. To whom do you SUSCRIBE? To whom do you LINK?

Sorry for the shouting. Just wanted to call attention to a great point made by Pyrrho in a diary that is quickly scrolling away now, and that unfortunately got filled with a flame war over diary policing, but that needs to not be neglected: a point about how we can cope with the fast-rushing diary stream.

Pyrrho noted that the way to not lose good diaries in the now-rushing stream of the new diary list is to use the subscribe function to subscribe to diaries from writers one admires.

Now, if we all did this, it would become all the more necessary to pan for gold in the stream of diaries, since relative newcomers or infrequent diary posters would find their contributions lost in that stream since they wouldn't be being noticed by subscribers.

Hence it seems to me that it will be important for diarists to actively link to other diaries, particularly to diaries that they are afraid may get lost in the stream. I've seen Maryscott O'Connor for one do this quite effectively--probably especially since she has lots of subscribers, she can effectively funnel readers into diaries from less prolific community members.

Of course, even a linking diary should have a raison d'etre. As I mentioned above, the diary to which I linked, Pyrrho's, has a big flame war at its top. But there, people are also listing recommendations of community members to whose diaries they subscribe. You can do that here too.

  other diaries. Its silly, and only adds to the diary avalanche. It doesnt matter who authors it.
