While most of the major right wing blogs do not allow comments, many of the smaller ones do. As much fun as it is to contribute to discussions here at Kos, we are really just preaching to the choir. Something even more useful is visiting and posting on right wing blogs as much as possible. The ultimate goal being to win converts but just dispelling the mischaracterizations of the left is an accomplishment in and of itself.
The scattershot method of posting on every blog you can find has limited value, but finding one or two that you can focus on and commenting regularly can be effective. The first blog I have selected is local, which helps provide immediate common ground. By commenting intelligently and without distorting and mischaraterizing the opposing views you build your credibility as one who values serious, critical political thought. Occasional agreement helps too. (It also helps to find a blog whose author clings so firmly to talking point mentality that it makes it easy to respond).
What is important in this endeavour is to avoid all ad hominem attacks. Courtesy and clarity are key; I strive to avoid ridiculing the character of right wing voters and attempt to provide a lefty viewpoint devoid of critisism. (I don't always succeed on the last part).
Challenging any claims being made without any supporting research is an easy place to begin (the more outrageous the better).
I don't think I have won any converts yet, but on several occasions, my comment has essentially ended the thread. I take that as a good sign.
It's not a huge blog and I know there are only a few regular readers, but every little bit helps. Perhaps by the time this blogger votes in her first presidential election, she will at least think twice about the candidates.
Take back America, one voter at a time.
