Sometimes we forget.
We are a
revolutionary country. Forged in the fires of liberty. There is no doubt about it, you can look it up.
Well, while you can. What about white rose do you not understand?
We can not hide behind an eminence front, it's a put on. People forget.
Tonight's journey will start at a little town in Massachusetts. One if by land and two if by sea and I on the opposite shore shall be booted and spurred and ready to ride.
Said Paul Revere.
Let's ride.
We'll get our anger on "12 OZ. MOUSE!, 12 OZ. MOUSE!". Grr... How dare they treat us this way? No, no, no that could never happen today. If y'all want to stop war and stuff you have to sing loud.
And it's not like we didn't whine and complain enough, we were about as obnoxious as we could be. In a "remarkably quiet and peaceful way" of course.
What? Doesn't that work for you? Next thing you know you'll accuse me of sowing division and I would never do that.
But in the colonies things got pretty intolerable and King George (III, not our current miserable failure (damn, number 2. Let's try miserable failure again. Ahh... much better. Do you like calls to action as much as I do? Now for miserable failure en español.) had some pretty distinct ideas about restoring the power of a unitary executive after the civil war. No, not this one, stop navel gazing and get over your digression.
People forget.
Meet the MilSpec Brown Bess.
Wait. I do not now and never have owned a gun. I do not advocate that anyone buy, own, or use one. Ever.
I like to think we have evolved a little as a society.
And besides, we had better weapons anyway so it was an unfair fight from the get go as a bunch of red blue necks took target practice.
Sigh.
They're all dead now.
So who cares about Ticonderoga and how Henry Knox's guns on Dorchester Heights after Breed's Hill forced the British out of Boston. Who cares about Canada or New York? Who cares about Washington and Greene and Arnold?
What people forget about the American Revolution is that it was A Revolution!!. 30% support on a good day. Armed resistance to lawful authority using state of the art military hardware.
And we won!
We created a revolutionary government, designed to protect personal liberty.
And we have tossed it in the toilet.
Heck, even Eisenhower tried to warn us.
Our founders did not operate in a non-partisan environment. They well understood the abuses of the majority and did what they could to protect us from it. The French did not do so well (great job with the cheese though).
The founders were wisely afraid, as was I the day I joined the white rose. Now I cultivate my warrior face, dress in blue and buff , and crave neither existence or non-existence.
Credit where credit is due. Inspired by Gram E in response to her comment here. I am not kidding. We will all learn a great deal from Clio.
