I've decided to stop just reading and start participating. Seems the only way to change things. This was a response I wrote to his auto-reply regarding Alito. This is my first diary entry.
Senator Allard,
I am not questioning Judge Alito's credentials. I am questioning the fact that Judge Alito has spoken in the past of his agreement with the Unitary Executive. This concept, wrongly interpreted by the Bush administration, gives the administration more power than is necessary. This increase in power comes by depriving the power of the people and YOUR power. Your power to remain a check to the presidency. Your power to represent the people who put you in office. Your power to represent the people who pay your salary. I don't understand how you can in good conscious give up this power. By voting to confirm Judge Alito you are beginning what could possibly be some of the darkest days for our great nation. A time when the wishes of the people do not matter and are ignored. A time when fear is used to control instead of a sense of peace and goodwill. A time when our freedom begins to be eroded away, the very thing that we hold dear. A time when the highest office in our land becomes not a president but something more, something that our founding fathers fought to avoid. Please do not let their hard work vanish. These are not the ideas that our Republic was built upon.
Do not vote to confirm Judge Alito because of his qualifications, look deep within your heart and think about what is best for our nation. The direction our nation takes, good or bad, rests on your shoulders.
Citizen and Patriot,
