The very unpopular Budget Reconciliation package, which slashes Medicaid progrmas for the poor and handicapped including autistic kids, goes up for a vote tomorrow in the House of Representatives. AP reports that several House Republicans are thinking of voting against it.
Find out who and what you can do to help on the flip.
From the article
GOP Rep. Rob Simmons, who represents a predominantly Democratic district in Connecticut, announced last week that he would oppose the bill. Reps. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., John Sweeney, R-N.Y., Sherwood Boehlert, R-N.Y., Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., and Mike Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., said in interviews they have moved, to varying degrees, into the undecided camp. Shays and Gerlach, for instance, said they are leaning in favor of the bill.
The last vote was 212-206, a three vote swing makes it 209-209. The reason I think these three votes could swing the bill is that all three are members of the
Autism Caucus. The autism caucus is dedicated to providing services and treatment for autism. But, as posted
here earlier, this bill would cut Medicaid services to disabled children of all stripes - including autistic children. Which is why all Autism groups oppose this legislation.
Contact these representatives and let them know that a vote FOR the Budget Reconciliation is a vote AGAINST Autistic children.
