I wsa watching the local news on WRC (Washington DC NBC affiliate) this morning. They interviewed someone from the Capitol Police concerning the Sheehan/Young/SOTU event. Now my back was turned, and my attention was only 50% on the tube. But I think I heard the anchor push the police representative into admitting that the two women were treated differently.
The anchor asked why Cindy was arrested but Beverly was not. Representative said they weren't. Said that Beverly voluntarily left. Anchor rephrased a little bit, and what came out, paraphrased was this: "the police arrested Sheehan and they explained the situation to Young, who chose to voluntarily leave." If my analysis of what was said is correct, Sheehan was not given the opportunity to bow out like Young did.
There was also mention made in the WaPo this morning that Capitol Police were seeking to have the charges dropped since she 'hadn't broken any laws' or something to that effect. Which clearly raises fourth amendment issues.
Sorry, I wasn't watching on the TV with the TiVo, and have no transcript.
