Yes I know, it must come as quite a shock to hear that a Bush appointee such as C.I.A director Porter Goss would use valuable intelligence resources for political purposes, however that appears to be exactly what's happening.
During Thursday's Senate session on security, the topic moved to the N.S.A domestic spying issue where Democrats rightfully raised the issue of warrantless domestic spying on U.S citizens.
More to this below the break...
In what will clearly be the administration and GOP's "talking point" and a spin play taken right out of Rove's playbook, Porter Goss and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) attempted to redirect attention onto the purported leakers and away from the potential constitutional crisis surrounding the administrations approval of the NSA's domestic spying.
We can only hope that some day soon Mr. Goss will have the opportunity to address the fact that while he asserts leaks concerning the NSA terrorist spying operation on US citizens has done "very severe" damage to national security and that some "assets" have become "no longer viable", he has yet to conduct a similar damage assessment within the Central Intelligence Agency of the much older "Plame" leak which CLEARLY endangered one of the CIA's own employees needless to say her operations abroad.
One can only conclude from his actions, that Mr. Goss is selectively conducting (or not) damage assessments solely for political purposes which is a waste of valuable resources and is disingenuous to the mission at hand of protecting our nation from terrorism.
