So I'm stranded at home with a fever this fine Friday night. Nothing much to do outside of frying your brain in front of the tv. So for the hell of it, I switch to Fox News, just to see what the other smirking little chimp, Sean Hannity, is up to these days. And what do I find? A desperate attempt to discredit John Murtha, an American hero who can only be attacked with egregious Fox News lies.
So Hannity and his fellow "journalists" go to Johnstown PA, the hometown of congressman Murtha. The segment starts off with arranged interviews with veterans and street interviews with the average constituent. They start off by asking each person how they feel about John Murtha. And suprise suprise, every single one of them LOVED Murtha. One lady, whose son was killed in Iraq even told a touching story about how Murtha had been so kind to her.
Something, obviously, wasnt right with this picture: Sean Hannity airing a series of interviews that accurately portray the populatity of America's finest congressman? Never.
So then the hatchet job begins. Hannity and his crew go up to these same people and ask for responses to some Murtha one liners like "Our military is broken" (I think that was the only controversial quote they could cook up). They didn't offer the context of that quote or anything. Just simply, "What do you think of John Murtha saying our military is broken?"
The reactions in the interviews weren't even that emotional. People just simply said, I don't agree, but no one was blatantly appaled or anything.
One of the great tools in character defamation is to quote your enemmy out of context. You could probably take a one liner from Ghandi for gods sake and parellel it to Nazism. Fox News simply had no sustantive evidence to discredit Murtha amongst his loyal constituents.
At commercial break before the segment was aired, the advertised it as "Is Murtha's position on Iraq representative of his district?" Fox was trying to make a point that Murtha was popular only because people were not informed because once those "dangerous" quotes of his were rolled out, people disagreed. So not only are they defaming Murtha, they are insulting the intelliegence of his constituents. Sick!
