An Invitation:
You are cordially invited to join the Gore Portal, the home of a people-powered movement to draft former Vice President Al Gore for President. Please RSVP!
Al Gore, The Visionary of Our Times
Even before his
historic speech at DAR Constitution Hall on MLK-Day, Al Gore stood miles ahead afield.
He
forewarned well before the Senate vote on the Iraq war that the war was ill-founded and that the proposed attack would result in a disaster of enormous proportions.
He has called not just for reforming the Patriot Act, but for a
near complete repeal of that act, a call that he reiterated in his MLK-Day speech.
During the nineties, he
was a partner in one of the most successful administrations
ever, fostering fiscal responsibility, economic growth, meaningful tax reforms (including targeted middle class tax cuts) and worked relentlessly to turn record deficits into record surpluses, while at the same time bringing down
unemployment rates to
historic lows, thus giving legitimacy to the notion of a
budget-hawk Democrat!
But most importantly, what sets Al Gore miles ahead of most, if not all, current politicians is his
vision. Throughout his political career, on policy and governance matters, Gore has been ahead by months, years, and even decades, of the politics and politicians of his day. A shining example of that vision was his championing of what he would later call "information superhighway" in the congress and then later as Vice President, without which the revolutions of the open internet and the blogosphere might not have come to exist as they do today.
He currently realizes the enormous gravity and urgency of finding ways to reverse global warming and climate change, and has been tirelessly
advocating immediate action in his speeches and activities around the world, trying hard to forge a course of action to avert impending environmental disasters, notwithstanding the obvious obstacles towards responsible environmental policy here at home.
Clearly, he stands in a class all his own in the American political landscape.
Drafting Al Gore
The question for all of us Gore supporters is: are we serious about electing Al Gore in 2008? If so, how do we go about making that prospect a reality?
A group of us bloggers and volunteers have created a site, the
Gore Portal, to organize a draft movement.
Why you ask? Because we firmly believe that Al Gore represents the best of the best prospects out there for the office of the Presidency, and that if he decides to make a run, Al Gore will bring with him enormous stature, intelligence, experience, visionary leadership, and deep, well-deserved national and international respect to the stewardship of our nation and consequently to the planet that we call home.
The site has
powerful organizational features that we can use to mobilize first a netroots movement and ultimately a nationwide grassroots and popular groundswell. But this can only happen if we join hands and bring to fore our collective energies, ideas and initiative.
Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of our team that put the site together, I present you the
Gore Portal, and hope you will join us there and help draft Al Gore for President.
