Any good journalist needs to be asking the following: (they probably won't)
UPDATED: According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, they are on this story for the long haul. Kenedy County Sheriff's Department is notorious for not communicating, and statements from them have been hard to come by. Even if the national media is spinning this as an accidental shooting, it sounds like the Caller Times is doing a great job, and have really gone into go mode. No official other than the vice president has declared this accidental. The Armstrong ranch is apparently located in Kenedy County. The Kenedy County Sheriff's department has not issued any statements. Again, the only official to declare the shooting accidental is Cheney himself.
What time was the Kenedy County Sheriff's office called?
Has this shooting been ruled accidental? When? By Whom? What time? Has the scene of the shooting been investigated? Why has the Sheriff's office not not yet made a statement about the investigation?
there are more serious questions on the flip.
Are shooting suspects normally allowed to leave the state of Texas without giving a statement to the Kennedy County Sheriff's department?
Has the vice president been treated differently than any other suspect in a hunting accident?
What charges can someone in this situation expect? Negligent discharge of a firearm? Hunting law violations, which often require probation and a monetary fine? Assault? Aggravated Assault?
Hello? Is anyone asking these questions?
Update II: After reading the E&P article, some additional questions come to mind:
In that the coverup is usually more criminal than the actual incipient event, are we looking at a coverup? In 18 hours, stories can be rehearsed, witnesses tampered with, evidence compromised. The weather could have impacted the investigation of the scene of the shooting. Did it? What evidence has been lost?
Uncommonsense has a particularly good question about the hospital perhaps not reporting the shooting, as required by state law. C'mon folks, let's pull together on this and get the story reported in the news. Call the newspapers. Ask these questions.
