I have always suspected that Dick Cheney was a coward and now I am firmly convinced.
The man received 5 deferments from serving in Vietnam. I told myself, well "lots of people didn't want to serve in Vietnam and received deferments". So I shouldn't really hold that against him too much.
Then he disappeared after the 9/11 bombings. I told myself at that time, well "Cheney does know the ins and outs of Washington and we really don't know precisely what the threat is, so maybe this is a necessary precaution". George Bush, meanwhile remained the face of the administration, which I thought was fairly brave. Bush might be a trigger-happy moron, but a brave one, at that.
Now this latest incident has convinced me finally that Cheney is yellow to the core. What kind of man can't take responsibility for hitting what was in front of his gun when he pulled the trigger. Simple common decency would indicate that if you had shot a man and he is lying in the ICU, regardless of whether he may have been slightly at fault, you would take responsibility for your actions and absolve him of his. Not my buddy Dick. He would rather let float a rumor that the man didn't follow some "hunter's protocol" about notifying people when you walk up on them which several hunters have written doesn't actually exist. (The actual rule is more like "Everybody needs to know where everybody is at all times".)
Put it all together, and the man is simply an abject coward and a bully who acts tough when he has his military or his knowledge of the workings of Washington to protect him. The sooner this man retires in disgrace the better.
