Illinois is one of the states out there that requires that Walmart stock the Morning After Pill.
Forbes.com notes that it's state law. And as such, Walmart must comply.
However,
[t]he retail giant has said it "chooses not to carry many products for business reasons," but the firm--which carries food and tobacco goods from Kraft Foods, Altria, and Reynolds American...demurred from explicating the statement.
It seems that like its choice to "impos[e] what amounts to cultural censorship, and bans all music carrying a warning label" and magazines, the Morning After Pill is not one of those things that Walmart chooses to stock.
That is unless it is forced to...
Which is exactly what's happened!
According to Forbes.com Walmart has just been handed a directive by the Massachusetts Department of Health.
After a lawsuit against the company:
A distaff trio sued Scott's firm in a Bay State court for failing to carry the pill in the firm's Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores in Massachusetts. In the lawsuit, the women argue state policy requires pharmacies to provide all "commonly prescribed medicines."
This suit has resulted in a unanimous decision by the Massachusetts Department of Health directing Walmart to stock the Morning After Pill.
Let me repeat...
MA Walmarts are required to stock the Morning After Pill!
Wooo Hoooo!!
