Breaking News out of the Pentagon: Two CH-53's have crashed over the Guld of Aden just off of the coast of Djibouti. 6 crew members aboard, no word of how many if any, passengers.
Update [2006-2-17 18:54:18 by bulldog]:: Two of the ten aboard were pulled alive from the waters off of the coast of Djibouti. Fingers crossed that more will be rescued instead of recovered.
I spent some time with the Marines in Djibouti this fall they have a robust SAR capability and a fairly sophisticated hospital on the base there. No question, DJ is an austere environment. 53's always fly in pairs. I have no idea why both would go down at the same time. I know tons of people over there. Pray with me for all of the peeps out there and their families. Some of whom will likely get a very sad visit from a casualty officer tonight.
