What would you rather be; a Do-Nothing or a Know-Nothing? I think it's a hard choice to make.
Most of us belong to the Do-Nothing Party, a.k.a. the Democratic; though none of us considers ourselves Do-Nothings.
And we absolutely hate the Know-Nothings; the Republicans, much the same as we hate pedophiles and other perverts; because, after all, if it is one thing the Know-Nothings have done, it's pervert our system of politics and government.
Still, I don't know if a Do-Nothing is any better. A Do-Nothing is someone who knows something, but refuses to use this knowledge for the good. A Know-Nothing is a complete ignoramus who thinks he knows everything and therefore runs amok doing all the wrong things.
I suppose lots of times a Do-Nothing does the right thing: Do no harm. But after years of the bellicose blunderings of the Know-Nothings, and the resultant sad state of our union, Do-Nothingness is no longer a viable option.
And, for sure, there is no shortage of Do-Nothings promising to change their work ethic and actually
do something, but all they really do is complain about what the Know-Nothings are doing; which is extreme and dangerous, for sure, but the Do-Nothings only plan is to, well, do nothing, and hope the electorate gets so tired of the Know-Nothings they put the Do-Nothings back in office to, uh, do nothing.
I saw a poll recently which said about 75% of Americans believe neither the Do-Nothings nor the Know-Nothings have a plan to fix what ails America.
This is patently ridiculous. The Know-Nothings have a plan. It's called Voodoo Economics and War Without End. What ails America is poor people dragging us all down. So the plan is to make the rich richer and have some of Richie Rich's coin trickle down to the middle-class, just enough to keep them buying into the American dream, and use the poor as cannon fodder; thereby reducing their number and lifting up all America through the population control of impoverished `useless eaters.'
That's a hell of a plan; except, you know, it's the plan of Know-Nothings and, by definition, totally stupid.
And what do the Do-Nothings propose? Oh, there's a bunch of gibberish about this and that, but no real plan. Do-Nothings are against the war in Iraq, but think we can win if only they were running things; but seriously, what would they do? Do-Nothings are afraid of being soft on terrorism and rant and rave about being just as tough as the Know-Nothings, but still refuse to address the underlying cause: America's "national security" relies upon the plunder of others' resources.
What part about "Yankee Go Home!" don't the Do-Nothings understand?
Do-Nothings are paralyzed by fear and Know-Nothings are fearless in their ignorance.
So where is our hope? Damned if I know. As many cluster-fucks as the Know-Nothings produce, as they must by definition, the Do-Nothings think they're in a game of dodgeball. "Whew!" they seem to say, "We dodged that bullet." What bullet? The bullet of having to do something.
Bush's policy of torture? Get out of the way!
Bush's legacy of lies? Look out! Don't touch that one! Send Kucinich; no one takes him seriously.
Bush's fear-mongering? He's right. We were attacked. Anyway, we should be afraid. The radicals have hi-jacked their religion. They hate us; our freedom. We're at war. We can't speak truth to power; not in war time.
Yeah, well, how long will this war last?
For-fucking-ever. And that's how long `we' will do nothing. It's un-American in a time of war to dissent. March all you want before the war starts, but once you've been hoodwinked; game over.
Frankly, it's lucky most liberals don't take to guns. There'd be a suicidal brain splatter orgy at the ridiculous recklessness of it all.
So which is it? Who does more harm? A Do-Nothing or a Know-Nothing?
What has hurt the country more the last five years? The Republicans' egregious actions or the Democrats' cowardly lack of opposition?
It's a tough call, isn't it?
But as much pure evil has been perpetrated by the neocon cabal of Cheney, Rumsfeld, their witless President and their Know-Nothing minions, they're only following their natures.
And the Do-Nothings are going against theirs. The Party of Social Security, Medicare, Equality, Peace and Justice has been over-powered by corporatism, polls, consultation of perpetual losers and other small minds of least-common-denominator stategery.
So, I know this won't be popular, but the Do-Nothing strategy of waiting, waiting, waiting for the Know-Nothings to hang themselves on their own petard has been more detrimental to the nation and the world than the folly of Know-Nothing freaks who believe up is down and wrong is right.
Do-Nothings know better. To do nothing in the face of evil is the worst kind of cowardice.
Let's ask it another way. Which would you choose? Foolish Pride or Cowardice?
I guess that's what is so maddening to the real opposition; the left wing. The difference between a Do-Nothing and a Know-Nothing is six of one and a half a dozen of another.
