Here's just a post saying "hello" to everyone in the DKos community. Long time reader ... recent member.
A bit about myself:
I'm a senior mathematics major at Wright State University in Fairborn, OH. I got into politics and elections in 2000 when we discussed them in my AP Government class. I've done a very minor amount of volunteer work for the Greens until I decided they weren't for me (although you can still find my name on the Ohio Greens web page). I've been, officially, a registered Democrat since 2002, but will become an independent on May 2 since party politics isn't my bag.
In 2004, I participated in the Ohio recount, which convinced me that the local boards of election didn't have any malicious intent, but were woefully inept at their jobs.
Ideologically, I'm left-libertarian (aiming at libertarian socialism as an ultimate goal) and relatively supportive of states' rights. Philosophically, I'm a deontologist, which means I make moral and ethical decisions regardless of the consequences. For instance, (dons flame-retardant suit) I'm pro-choice, but I believe abortion is a state issue. So, I'm for the overturning of Roe v. Wade even though I know that means that the consequences of such an action are likely going to be very drastic and unfortunate.
I will respect your opinions if you will respect mine. Just remember, I'm not a Democrat, so keep that in mind when I'm critical of them.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you have about any issue positions (with rationalizations) I have if you care to ask.
