This just in from Jim Dean and Democracy for America:
Dear Joe,
The survival of our democracy demands that every vote be counted accurately. That's why Democracy for America is endorsing Debra Bowen to be California's next Secretary of State. As a current State Senator and Chair of the Senate Elections Committee, Debra has made significant progress defending your right to a fair election, but this is crunch time. We must act now to ensure that our voting systems produce accurate and verifiable results every single time. Senator Bowen will work to ensure the integrity of your vote.

More from Jim and I on the flip...
Debra Bowen will make sure California properly certifies all of its voting equipment, particularly the new electronic voting machines. She will establish an appropriate auditing mechanism to guarantee that the results of every election are 100% accurate. Debra will also work to reduce the influence of money in politics by exposing how money is spent and how it is used to pressure lawmakers.
Please visit Debra's website and help her in any way you can.

Thanks for helping our next generation of leaders succeed.
Sincerely,
Jim Dean
Chair
And Jim Dean also announced that California for Democracy is hosting a statewide conference call tonight at 7:30 pm:
P.S. Please join Senator Bowen on a conference call tomorrow night -- Wednesday, February 22 -- to hear about the election issues that she is working on, especially Secretary of State McPherson's recent decision to certify Diebold voting machines. You can RSVP at:

DFA recognizes that Debra Bowen GETS the grass/netroots. Why? Because she has walked in our shoes before, as she mentioned in one of the numerous comments she left in yesterday's recommended diary:
For those who don't know -- I got my start in politics as a community activist. I got many things done as an citizen activist -- some by myself, but many more by joining with other community activists.
After listening to California for Democracy grasroots activists and various local DFA chapters rave about Debra, it's wonderful to see Democracy for America get on the Bowen Bandwagon.
But now we've got a fight on our hands. In the June primary, Bowen is facing a formidable opponent in Deborah Ortiz, who is sitting on a boatload of cash from her previous campaign. No matter where you live, now is the time to help Bowen win.
The future of our democracy may depend on it.
