The're at it again. The religious right who want the government to tell the rest of us how to live, that is.
Already passed in Kanab, Utah, and being pushed in other communities such as Rockford Illinois (from a Rockford Register Star editorial) editorial:
The resolution is based on a document, "The Natural Family: A Manifesto," published last year by the Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society. The conservative think tank is based in Rockford and led by Allan Carlson. Carlson said he would like people to focus on the broader historical picture and find ways that society can protect family autonomy, family liberty and family functioning.
This is a combined effort from Carlson, an evangelical, and Paul T. Mero whose Sutherland Institute has ties to LDS (Mormonism). Look below the jump for the outrageous specifics
Some specific points from the resolution:
- "We envision a culture found both locally and universally that upholds the marriage of a woman to a man, and a man to a woman, as the central aspiration for the young."
- "We see these homes as open to a full quiver of children, the source of family continuity and social growth."
- "We envision young women growing into wives, homemakers, and mothers; and we see young men growing into husbands, homebuilders, and fathers."
- "It casts the home built on marriage as the source of true political sovreignty and ordered liberty."

According to this article,
Kanab residents, civil rights activists, and women's groups plan to descend on the tiny town hall at the next council meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, [Feb 28th] to demand that the resolution be repealed.
When I was searching for original the document, I saw that Joe Trippi had this up on Friday, but I didn't find it on Kos when I searched. Joe recommends you let the local tourism board know what you think of this.
