If you are in the Austin area, you might want to stop by the Austin capitol grounds tonight or tomorrow. Attorney General candidate David Van Os will be leading a public filibuster at the there starting at 6pm tonight and going on for twenty-four hours:
On March 2, 1836, our beloved Texas joined the community of nations as one of the earliest Constitutional democracies in the world. Now our democracy is being ripped off by corporate and political power-grabbers. In the spirit of our courageous forebears, we the people of Texas hereby declare our independence from corruption, cronyism, corporate government, and Bushite tyranny. - David Van Os
This filibuster is designed to draw attention to the Texas Constitution and Bill of Rights which have been eroded, if not destroyed, over the last several years.
Public discourse by and among citizens on the issues of the day is the heart and soul of Constitutional democracy. The Filibuster is not a political campaign rally. It is an exercise by citizens of the right to peaceably assemble to engage in public discourse at that most public of places, the Seat of Government. The Filibuster is intended to represent a continuation of the spirit and vision that motivated the founders of Texas to declare independence from a despotic usurper and establish Constitutional democracy 170 years ago this week, in the recognition that the times call for a reawakening of that spirit.--David Van Os
Although David Van Os has committed to holding the floor for substantial periods of time, others wishing to speak in the Filibuster will be welcome and encouraged to do so at intervals.
Remember that the Filibuster is taking place as public discourse in open public domain. Any hecklers or "counter-demonstrators" will be invited to join the discourse and debate their views.
The Texas Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights of the Texas Constitution will be delivered periodically during the Filibuster.
There will be no amplification by electric or other artificial means. There will be no blockage of walkways or steps, or interference with other persons wishing to utilize the Capitol Grounds. Monetary contributions will not be solicited or accepted.
DO NOT LITTER; the Filibuster must not do harm to the natural beauty of the Capitol Grounds.
A hospitality room will be open continuously at the Van Os for Attorney General campaign office, 1101 Music Lane, Suite 304
