More and more I am troubled with the category of a "conservative democrat", it seems to me that the better description might be a "republican light"
Hi Mr. Casey,
Even though residing in the state of Wisconsin, I support and will continue to do so your campaign, politically and financially. I am a registered Democrat, passionately irritated by the figure of Rick Santorum and hence will do anything in my power to get rid of that awkward, slimy creature. I am liberal democrat, however I do not hold against you your opinions about Roe vs. Wade since this is your opinion that I can respect even though while disagreeing strongly with you. As physician however, reviewing recently your different statements it came to my attention that you support the current administration's position on stem cell research which is truly unacceptable to my scientific mind and I do believe to all of us who believe that the personal and religious beliefs should not influence the science. Please do not forget that the most of scientific world consider this particular president and his anti-scientific administration that does not believe in stem cell research, global warming, pollution.... as abomination.
Please reassure me regarding your position on the stem cell research so I can continue supporting you. Please note that the online community (still liberal) is quite concerned about some of you positions and we would not like to help substitute one evil with another. Sincerely,
Mario Skobic
That is the letter I sent to Mr. Casey's campaign and here is my dilemma: in order to win should we support the candidates whose personal and religious agenda does not fit into our broader political beliefs. However, pro choice and pro science Republicans will ultimately end up (as we already saw) voting on the strictly party line. I do not believe that a category "liberal Republican" exists any more and I am not sure what to expect from a "conservative Democrat". Recent report on the Casey's support of Alito and especially his stands on the embryonic stem cell research made me almost feel sorry for the financial contribution to his campaign however only a thought on Rick Santorum's next 4 years in the Senate makes me feel nauseated. Dilemmas, dilemmas....
