I've been home this week, spring break at the community college where I teach history. The free time has allowed me a chance to catch up on the news and read DKos more than usual, which is both good and bad. The good is that I've been inspired by the great amount of work people have done here all across the country. However, the bad is, the nagging sinking feeling that I have had for some time about the 2008 Presidentital election, which has sunk to a new low. More below:
Part of this, of course, depends upon the congressional election outcome this fall. If the Democrats can take back control of one or both houses of Congress, perhaps we can save American Democracy. I remember feeling this kind of dispare during the early years of the Reagan presidency. But this feels even worse. My fear is, when it comes to giving up control of the White House, will the Bush Administration be able to do so, or will they find a way to maintain control. If there was another tragic terrorist attack, or the fear of one, either could be used to justify delaying the elections and/or not giving up the White House. I know this is rather paranoid of me, but I thought this would be the forum in which people might understand. Just a rant.
