This is a reposting of a short, powerful Digby piece over at Hullabaloo that I personally want shot out of a cannon from every rooftop in the country. It's about Limbaugh's statement on November 29, 2005, three days after the kidnapping of Tom Fox and three other Christian peace activists in Iraq:

... But any time a bunch of people that walk around with the head in the sand practicing a bunch of irresponsible, idiotic theory confront reality, I'm kind of happy about it, because I'm eager for people to see reality, change their minds if necessary, and have things sized up.

Rush was kind of happy that Tom Fox was kidnapped. Tom Fox had his hands tied behind his back, was beaten with electrical cables, and was shot point blank in the head. His body was just found in a garbage dump. And it kinda gives Rush a rush. More below.

Let Digby point you to the whole story:

Happy Days

by digby

There must be great joy on the right tonight. One of Rush's loathed leftist feel-good hand-wringers has been shown reality in a big way.

Only "Hillary's face on a milk carton" could make them happier.

This is another moment when the real Limbaugh shines through. (As you know, there have been others.) Let's show it to the world.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I can't stand rush, and as much as I deplore the lack of comments from our allegedly "Christianized-unless you are a Quaker, then, we spy on you" government on this murder, I think it is misleading for the diarist to suggest this was rush's response to his death.

let them be hysterical, we're better than that.

    •  the second line in teh diary (none)
says that Limbaugh made the statement on "on November 29, 2005, three days after the kidnapping of Tom Fox." How could that possibly misconstrued as after the death?

The point is clear here. He obviously wouldn't say such a thing after the killings--but he may as well have after the fucking kidnapping. How many kidnapees have been tortured and killed in Iraq.

      You didn't do it.

But really, Devore--if you said you were happy that someone fell out of a car on a crowded, speeding highway, am I supposed to give you a break when the faller, no surprsie, gets crushed and killed by a car? That's is too fucking much.

I'm not changing The title. Fuck Rush. He said he was happy about a kidnapping where kidnappings lead to torture and death. I say he said he was happy about Tom Fox's death.

When you get kidnapped in Iraq there's a good chance you're going to get fucked up and very possibly killed.

                    •  All analogies are (none)
though some do better than others. I was never great at it, I'll confess, but I think the point was pretty obvious. I'll say it again without analogy:

Rush Limbaugh proclaimed himself "kinda happy" about  the kidnapping of Tom Fox and three others in Iraq. Americans who get kidnapped in Iraq are often--very often, possibly, there are no good numbers on it--tortured. They are also often murdered. This article says there have been at least 250 foreigners kidnapped in Iraq. At least 39 have been killed. That's a pretty scary statistic, and the percentage for Americans is much higher. This Wshington Post article gives numbers for Americans: 40 kidnapped; 10 killed. The most famous example is, of course, Daniel Pearl.

For one to say that one is happy about an event which well known history suggest will lead to torture and murder is, in my view, to say that one is happy about the torture an murder.

                      Maybe Rush just forgot?

                      You didn't do it.

You're talking about the title? Alright, I'll add a question mark. It is a bit harsh. I think it's fair, personally. The fuck said he was happy about the kidnapping. What defense does he deserve after that?

Rush is an asshole of the worst variety.  But let's not tar him with the wrong brush.

I believe he's happy.  But, he hasn't stated that, which is implied.

Good research.  And you are correct to point out his serial unAmerican, antiChristian and inhuman mean spiritedness.

If we're dumb. Then God is dumb. And maybe a little ugly on the side.

I think he's vile, mean. unkind, ungenerous, divisive for divsiveness' sake, shortsighted...

the point is about the statment 3 days after the kidnappings. "Kinda happy about it". Does it take a lot of work to see the sickness in that?

give it a rest. no one is saying rush isn't vile, long before November 2005, I might add.

Why must it be called "bent out of shape" to explain and defend my reasoning? That's not a fair tactic. I don't think the title goes too far and I explained why. And I compromised, fer chrisake.
