Throughout his campaigns and presidency, Bush has repeatedly claimed to support and help small businesses--perhaps most publicly during the debates ("Need some wood?"). In reality, however, the administration has established policies that are detrimental to small business owners.
In an interview, Lloyd Chapman (ASBL President) discusses the hostile environment that the administration has created for small business owners and his organization's court battles to correct that environment. Among other interesting tidbits, the administration was busy gutting the SBA budget and staff, even as Bush was announcing that small business would lead the way in Katrina recovery.
So, that "Republicans are pro business" meme? A lot accurate if you prepend "business" with "big."
