I will be there opening weekend. I'm excited, but also scared by this one. I loved much of V when I read it in the late '80s. (Particularly the parts Alan Moore had written years before in England. I found that the ending he wrote for DC at the time kind of unraveled for me -- but that could be smoothed over in a screen play.) I also loved the intro he wrote for the DC printing in the late '80s.
But I'm a bit scared of this thing being made now.

I mean, I've gotta admire the balls on the guys who decided to go forward with this project now. They're big enough to make it onto Galactus's menu. And certainly when I read the chapter where V blows up London landmarks while "conducting" an imaginary orchestra through the 1812 Overture, I thought that was one of the most strangely but strikingly cinematic sequences I'd ever "read" in a comic. "Wow," I thought, "that would be something to see it actually filmed and set to music, not that anyone would ever actually do it." Heh.
The movie could be terrific. It will almost certainly be mind blowing. But depending on how they handle things, well, I don't know. The main character does advocate and employ terrorism and torture to fight a fascist government. Now that we're facing real world terrorism, (them) torture (sadly, us) and perhaps fascism (take your pick), this feels like it could be a lot more distasteful than it was in high school.
That being said, I find myself undeniably excited to see it (just ask my spouse). I may make it there for a midnight Thursday show. I have high hopes and big fears for this one.
