Do we need any other example than this to prove the real immediate positive consequences of courageous leadership from Senator Russ Feingold and Representative John Conyers who stand up for the power of principle and truth?
American Research Group released a poll today showing 46% of Americans favor Senator Russ Feingold's (D-WI) plan to censure President George Bush, while 44% are opposed. When the question is restricted only to registered voters support for censure rises to 48%.
The percentage of Americans favoring impeachment of President Bush has grown to 42% so far support impeachment of the President. I first learned of the poll from a Raw Story article Raw Story Article but knowing of the many deep questions here at dkos about Raw Story I tracked down the above mentioned and below quoted original data on the American Research Site.
But I think it's appropriate for me not to bypass Raw Story's excellent and accurate summary of the original article with my own. The poll has many other fascinating data indicating that the American public is undergoing a tremendous shift in opinion about President Bush and his policies. And most notably among conservatives. For example, Raw Story reports (and you can verify for yourself in below data tables on the ARG site):
Even more shocking is that just 57% of Republicans are opposed to the move, with 14% still undecided and 29% actually in favor. Fully 70% of Democrats want to see Bush censured.
More surprising still: The poll found fully 43% of voters in favor of actually impeaching the President, with just 50% of voters opposed. While only 18% of Republicans surveyed wanted to see Bush impeached, 61% of Democrats and 47% of Independents reported they wanted to see the House move ahead with the Conyers (D-MI) resolution.
The poll, taken March 13-15, had a 3% margin of error.
I hope I don't jeapordize my erudite image here by saying, "Wow!?"
Also, elsewhere in Raw Story 32 Congressmand Call For Impeachment
We learn that:
32 members of Congress have signed on to a resolution calling for a committee to probe grounds for the impeachment of President George W. Bush, Atlanta Progressive News reports. The committee would seek to determine whether or not Bush committed impeachable offenses in leading the United States into war with Iraq.
The resolution may be read in its entirety here.
Excerpts from the Atlanta Progressive News follow:
32 US House Representatives have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of H. Res 635, which would create a Select Committee to look into the grounds for recommending President Bush's impeachment, Atlanta Progressive News has learned.
Their co-sponsorships of H. Res 635 come on the heels of reports that US Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) will support US Senator Russ Feingold's (D-WI) bill, S. Res 398, to censure President Bush.
The two latest co-sponsors of H. Res 635 are US Rep. David Wu (D-OR) and US Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN).
"Because of my concern, and that of many of my constituents, regarding the misleading and fraudulent intelligence used by the Bush administration to present its case for war in Iraq, I decided to cosponsor H. Res 635 introduced by Representative John Conyers," Wu said in a statement prepared for Atlanta Progressive News.
