Ohio Democratic gubenatorial candidate Ted Strickland has come out with his first TV ad of the race.

I think it leaves much to be desired. More below.
1. The music sounds like a whiny 70s made-for-TV movie soundtrack.
2. Ted's voice is a bit muted and it's difficult to understand what he's saying, especially when heard on TV right after other loud commercials.
3. The background is dark and the old school pictures are grainy and don't, in my opinion, add to the overall effect.
4. In the 30 second ad, if you're the average viewer and know nothing about Ted, it's difficult to understand what's going on until the end of the commercial. That, and it begins so abruptly and is packed with so much information that I think you miss the first 10 to 15 seconds trying to figure out what was said previously and what the ad is all about.
What else? I really feel that this ad missed its mark and that we can't make mistakes like this in Ohio, or anywhere else for that matter. If you have a reasonable opinion, please visit Ted's blog and comment in the latest thread. The blog administrator pays close attention to comments and has been fantastically responsive to my opinions on the ad. This is a great way to make a change in Ohio by taking 10 or so minutes of your time.
