The Culture of Corruption surrounding everything Bush Administration demands taking a closer look at the breaking news that Karl Rove
is handing over hundreds of pages of secret documents. Just look at how damaging these documents are:
According to one source close to the case, Rove is providing information on deleted emails, erased hard drives and other types of obstruction by staff and other officials in the Vice President's office. Pentagon sources close to Rove confirmed this account.
The Bush Administration was supposed to give these documents to Patrick Fitzgerald way back in 2003. While they failed to do so then, they mysteriously appear now? Why? Did Fitzgerald somehow know about these documents and Karl Rove belatedly agreed to give them up hoping to save his skin or is there more to this? By giving up these documents, which could potentially be damaging to the Scooter Libby defense and many others in the administration, is Rove cooperating with Fitzgerald for immunity? What exactly do other administration officials know about Rove's involvement and are they afraid? Or, are these 250 pages of nearly useless administration in an attempt to appease (or even mock) Fitzgerald, while the administration pretends to comply?
Furthermore, if these documents are damaging, why is Karl Rove willing to sacrifice Dick Cheney's entire office? The feuding between some in the Bush Administration and some members of Cheney's staff is fairly well documented and gained some public exposure in light of Dick Cheney's hunting skillz. However, at this point it appears as if Dick Cheney is here to stay: any political damage to Cheney is political damage to Bush, and Rove must know that. Either the Rove-Cheney feud is worse than people thought, the 250 new pages of emails Fitzgerald now has are useless or Patrick Fitzgerald really has Karl Rove checked in a game of political chess that Karl Rove is now losing badly.
What is it? Who knows. However, as more of this news breaks, more clues as to the true nature of Rove's involvement with Fitzgerald will be revealed. Pay close attention: with such an ugly culture of corruption, things can be far worse than their already ugly appearance.
