Lou Dobbs needs a reality check.
Yesterday, just like every other day, he lumped Democrats in with Republicans when it comes to screwing the middle class:
DOBBS: We're going to come back to that issue and we're going to, if I may, ask each of you, as well, to answer something that I cannot figure out to save me. Why is this administration and this Senate, in particular, and this House so averse to the idea of doing something directly supportive of working men and women in this country and middle class families? [...]
Joe, let me start. Why can't this Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike and this president, just say, you know, the middle class is foundation of the country, the men and women working in this country are critically important? Why can't they just say that?
It's misinformation like this that leads voters to believe that both parties are the same, when in reality, they're polar opposites. Republicans prioritize corporations and their profits. Democrats prioritize the middle class.
Let's take, for example, the minimum wage, one of Lou's pet issues (other than our "broken borders", that is.) Lou apparently forgets about the dozens of Democratic bills introduced year after year on that issue. Here's just a handful from the 109th Congress:
- S. 14: The Fair Wage, Competition, and Investment Act of 2005(To provide fair wages for America's workers, to create new jobs through investment in America, to provide for fair trade and competitiveness, and for other purposes.)
- S. 846: To provide fair wages for America's workers
- S.840: Fair Pay Act of 2005
- S. 1062: The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2005
Over in the House, in addition to the companion bills for the above proposals, there's also H. R. 1050: A Living Wage, Jobs For All Act. And yet, Lou Dobbs make it seem like Democrats don't care about the middle class at all. Such reporting is reckless, sloppy, and unfair. Lou Dobbs needs a reality check.
Head on over to the contact page for Lou Dobbs tonight and ask him why he refuses to acknowledge the efforts of the Democratic Party to raise the minimum wage. Why does he lump those who are beholden to corporations with those who have a a steady record of fighting on behalf of the middle class?
