Before reading this, please know that I am in no way trying to divert attention away from today's brilliantly organized protests.
So, hereitgoes!
While I feel a certain sense of admiration for the momentous protests we are witnessing nationwide in reference to the immigration debate, I cannot help but to wonder why after six years of devastation, we are seemingly unable, in all of this time, to bring similar sums of people together nationwide to express our opposition to the Bush Administration.
I find it disconcerting that while millions of people can so quickly join together and organize such a massive protest against the government's ridiculous efforts to solve the illegal immigration issue, the gigantic movement against all things Bush has yet to be seen.
The fact is, friends that the Bush Administration's complete disregard for the Constitution, and specifically the first and fourth amendment, is crystal clear. Your President and his powerful ilk are deliberately seeking to remove the basic rights of every single one of us. Further, your President and Mr. Cheney (the most despicable man I have ever had the displeasure of sharing my nation with) have done nothing short of the pursuit imperialist policies on every corner of the globe for the benefit of no single person or institution other than themselves or their direct beneficiaries.
Each passing day is a beacon of the treachery, incompetence, and utter criminality of these people. I am constantly wondering what it will take for the American people to pluck this cancer from our nation. Honestly, shall we wait until the land is awash with flesh eating zombies before we can convince people that they must stand up?
With the exception of a few larger events, there are no signs of plans for the massive and overpowering gatherings like in the days of Dr. King.
Look carefully at today's marches, what you will not see is a group cloistered in a so-called "Free Speech Zone." The reason why is glaring. When the loyalists must deal with vast quantities of people, they cannot hammer in four signs in a parking lot and expect to contain dissenters. For, while these people are utterly peaceful, they are the quintessential `force to be reckoned with' in the American experience.
Meanwhile, in the several events where I have shown up to show my opposition, I find that the numbers are microscopic in comparison. Often, we are shuffled into a tucked away area and many who exercise their First Amendment right to infiltrate the prime location given to the loyalists on the main road are swiftly removed, arrested or threatened institutionally.
It is clear that the number of people in this country who are outraged if not in a deep state of dissent, abhorrent these evil men and women is as enormous as it is growing; yet, these tens of millions of people have yet to hit the pavement.
Admittedly, I am far from being an expert on organizing my sock drawer much less, a protest; but that does nothing to quell my great desire to be a tiny dot in an aerial photograph taken to enhance the `BREAKING NEWS' that America seems to have at last had enough. And so, I propose that each of us make an effort to put this thing together while the President tries to enjoy his lemonade on a Saturday afternoon in August.
Although there is a never-ending cornucopia of atrocities that we must oppose, I feel that we must find a way do it as one. We must unite in our opposition so that we may one day collectively slay the dragon that has decimated our very lives.
If anyone who happens to be one of the great galvanizers of contemporary society needs any help, I'm here for you and you can reach me at any time. I hope that there are in fact tens of millions more who want to pixelate that amazing image in my dreams.
