I doubt many of us want to hear this, but I think it's true: If we want Bush censured or impeached, and we want to make sure he doesn't nuke anything, Republican voters are the key
.
We need to make nice to these betrayed Republican voters. We need to appeal to them to take action to save our country. We need them writing, calling and speaking out to their Republican represenatives, making it clear to those lawmakers that they can deal with Bush firmly and according to the law, or no one will vote for them in November.
The whole House and a third of the Senate face re-election in 7 short months. They're going to be home, in their districts, forced to interact with voters. They need to know people are disgusted not only with Bush, but with them. And they can't ignore that sentiment from Republicans, because they need the Republican's votes.
A Republican voter speaking out to Republican represenatives is worth 10 Democrats, in terms of the weight given that opinion by the idiots we've elected. (Okay, I still have anger issues, but I'm working on them.)
So... how do we reach these Republican voters?
Anger isn't going to work. Because if you've done something stupid, the last thing you want is someone in your face, pointing out that YOU were so stupid!
Obviously, most of the people who voted for Bush feel stupid right now. They feel betrayed. They're angry. The polls show that.
But bad poll numbers aren't enough to even make Democrats censure the President, let alone Republicans. The threat of losing elections is what gets politicians' attention.
So we need these people to take action, and that means getting them to listen to us.
How do we make them listen? (Is there a shrink on the boards?)
I'm thinking something along the lines of, We know you trusted him. You thought he was a good man. Obviously, a lot of people did, because he got elected. (Swallow bile rising up in throat.)
But he lied to you. He lied to everyone. He broke the law, and he has to pay for that.
He owes the people of the US the absolute truth about the reasons we have to go to war, and he wasn't truthful about Iraq, and it's cost us more than 2,000 American lives and billions of dollars. It's a mess that will take even more lives and even more money to fix. It's made us less save than we were before the war and depleted and demoralized our armed forces. It's weakened the US in the eyes of the entire world.
He's made one bad decision after another, never holds anyone on his staff responsible for any mistakes they make, and has run up the deficit like crazy. (Republicans hate someone who spends like crazy more than anything.)
Someone has to stop this man, and Republicans in congress have the power to do just that. If they won't, they don't deserve to be in congress. (They're big on personal responsibility, too. Hit the responsibility angle.)
Okay. Something like that. I don't think we need to show them proof of what the man's done. They know he's dirty. They know he lies. They just need someone to convince them to speak up. Who's going to do that, except us?
[Ed.] People, people, is our anger justified? Yes. Definitely.
Am I pissed at these voters? Yes.
Is it smart to express that anger to them now? No. It's not smart. It's not in our best interest.
Winning (which to us is making George Bush pay) will be more fun and more satisfying than telling people how stupid they were to vote for Bush in the first place.
