Imagine you're a Supreme Court Justice. Imagine you've been a Supreme Court justice for nearly 2 decades. Think of the cases you've presided over, the laws you've struck, the rights you've either secured or diminished.
What would your "proudest moment" in such a prestigious and important position be?
If you're Antonin Sca(nda)lia it's refusing to recuse yourself from a case involving a certain Vice-President you recently went duck hunting with, and acknowledge a close friendship.
That's right - almost two decades on the bench, involved in critical issues involving privacy, presidential powers -- you name it -- and sitting Supreme Court Justice says his proudest moment is one of sketchy ethics.
You might remember that several years ago -- when Ken Lay was still Kenny Boy, and not Defendant #1 -- Dick Cheney met with a 'secret' energy taskforce and his office was sued for disclosure/notes from the meeting by a number of environmental and public watchdog groups (BTW, Dick -- with gas approaching $3 a gallon, Exxon's profits breaking records, Kenny Boy on trial, and the Iraqi oil not paying for your little war... exactly what the hell DID they tell you?).
Welll.... says Scurrilousia,
"I think the proudest thing I have done on the bench is not allow myself to be chased off that case," Scalia said.
Seeing as the Fox headline is 'Scalia: "Proudest" Moment was Staying on Cheney Case' - it would seem this wasn't another matter of those busy body reporters misinterpretting his communications.
I'm not sure whether I'm more outraged that sitting Justice would say something like that - or that he almost certainly believes it.
The supposed pinnacle of objectivity - a role that should be one of the nine furthest removed from politics, and his proudest moment is sticking it to the damn liberals and do-gooders.
Nice.
Classy.
Truly one of the greats.
Jackass.
Justice Scalia - if you're interested in getting to the political game -- retire and start a blog... or sit your ass on a Fox News panel, not the court that's charged with deciphering, interpretting and sometimes eliminating the laws of my country.
