More important than Rumsfeld's resignation, in my opinion, would be that of Cheney. And Cheney's departure might even be more important than that of Bush. Some baseball fans might agree. This from the "Weekly Review" of Harper's magazine:

People world-wide appear to be choosing leftward leaning leaders, not only in Latin America but also in Europe. A trend likely to continue, or just a passing phenomenon? Could it happen in the good ole' U.S. of A.????
