Boy oh boy what a week. And it's only Wednesday. If you caught my
very first diary on Saturday, you know I've volunteered for
Marcy Winograd in her June 6th primary. I had planned on posting again over the weekend, but things are changing quickly.
Since Saturday I've seen a groundswell of 'grass roots' support for Jane Harman.
I took a walk around my Mar Vista neighborhood today, and this is what I found.
Here's a whole bunch of grass roots that are voting for Jane, if they can find the key to the padlock
These grass roots voters are making a break for it, climbing the fence. I don't think they know there's concrete on the other side
These poor fellows are a fence away from Don Felix tacos, one of my favs
Venice and Lincoln is a tough intersection, I don't think the roots made it (nope, that's the real billboard)
So it would seen Jane's demographic targeting has paid off. I think she has the empty lot vote locked up.
Here's a Shell station at Venice and Sepulveda that likes Jane's support of the war
Jack's a Jane man all the way
This one kinda honks me off-It's in the parking lot where my favorite Anchor Steam retailer sets up shop. (the finest American beer from San Francisco) He's a businessman, and doesn't want to be partisan. How'd they get those up there with the police station so close?
This, however, is the creme de la crap. This is on Culver, heading toward the beach, in protected wetlands. I ride my bike here just about every day, because it's some of the last green on the westside
K, all yukking it up aside, these signs seemed to show up out of nowhere, almost instantaneously. At first I thought it was a good thing, Ms. Harman is obviously concerned, but I find blanketing the westside's empty lots with her name to be a pretty cynical move. I have no idea what the LA regs are for political signage, but my gut says these all can't be kosher. If it is cool, that's great, I would never, ever, ever, ever oppose free speech.
BTW, I saw exactly ZERO Harman lawn signs. You know, the ones individual voters put up?
This is what they look like
Just to be fair, I'll also post my favorite Harman sign.
