MSNBC President Rick Kaplan is again shaking up the news channel's lineup, switching the timeslots of Joe Scarborough (Scarborough Country) and Rita Cosby (Live and Direct) and repeating Keith Olbermann's program (Countdown w/Keith Olbermann) on weekday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
In a message to staff, Kaplan said he expected the revamped lineup to "improve audience flow." The news touched off furious debate on the blogs that follow cable news, particularly the decision to rebroadcast Olbermann's program the following day. "Any network that decides to rebroadcast a program that draws a paltry 350,000 viewers on an average night the following day at 9 a.m. is clearly on its last legs," one blogger wrote. (Another wondered whether Friday's Countdown would run on Mondays.)
I don't know who the blogger is that said that, (search came up empty) but it's best to take a half-full approach. Olbermann's ratings have clearly not gone unnoticed by the top brass at MSNBC, hence the expanded coverage.
