The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that
Robert Novak said Wednesday that special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald knows who outed a CIA agent to the Chicago Sun-Times columnist but hasn't acted on the information because Novak's source committed no crime.
So who's the source and what does this mean?
This isn't the first time that Novak has dropped hints as to the identity of his source.
Back in December 2005, shortly after Libby was indicted, The Washington Post reported that Novak gave a speech in which he stated that he was "certain that President Bush knows who his mystery administration source is." During a questioning session, Novak went on to say:
"Don't bug me. Don't bug Bob Woodward. Bug the president as to whether he should reveal who the source is," Novak said.
Just two weeks ago, there was an exchange in the White House Press room in which
McClellan said he would not comment directly on the report that Bush declassified intelligence data to rebut a war critic, but he insisted the president has the constitutional right to do so. He also said the White House draws a distinction between leaking classified information that jeopardizes U.S. sources, methods and lives and disclosing sensitive information "when it is in the public interest."
So, who do you think was the leaker? My money is on Bush or Cheney themselves.
