I wrote
this diary two months ago today regarding the currently-unchallenged seat in NY-03 (Long Island, NY) held by arrogant, abrasive Peter King. That diary didn't get much notice and with "Colbertmania" running wild, this one probably won't either but I thought it was worth mentioning. (Apologies if this has been diaried - I manually searched the past two days and didn't see anything. - sid)
Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way and I haven't been able to pursue this as I'd have liked, but that earlier diary speculates on a potential challenger named
Dave Denenberg.
With a major tip to the Kingwatch blog, whose raison d'etre is pointing out King Peter's foibles, it would appear that at long last, Mr. Denenberg is set to make his candidacy official this Sunday, May 7.
I'm still unsure whether he raised the money he was seeking or whether he ever officially got the DCCC backing (the lack of which discouraged other suitable candidates, it appears), but this will (hopefully) be the first time King has had a real challenge. Again, if you check the article in the previous diary, you will see King's typical, arrogant, "bring it on" comment.
They say, "be careful what you wish for." I hope a lot of us in the NY Metro area can help Denenberg (if he declares) make the King eat crow and take back yet another valuable seat.
