The national political landscape is being redefined today in Iowa's First Congressional District. Today, I launched the second television ad of my campaign.
The ad can be viewed here.
Why is my ad unique?
Because I am the first Democrat to say in a campaign commercial that the President lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and to demand that the President develop a plan for handing over control of the fighting to Iraqis to we can bring our brave troops home.
It is time for common-sense change in Washington--a change that begins with a new generation of political leadership that isn't afraid to stand strong for what they believe in. The evidence is clear--President Bush lied to us about the justification for his war, and it's time for Democrats to demand answers and offer a solution to the quagmire in Iraq.
I know that Democrats can take back the House and put the brakes on the radical, out-of-touch Bush agenda--but only if we stand up, stand together, and stand for a clear alternative.
I, for one, will stand up.
I, for one, will fight every day to be a strong, independent voice for people who aren't being heard in Washington anymore.
And this is the clear alternative that I will stand for:
If I am elected to Congress, I will push for the development of a responsible exit strategy that allows for the Iraqis to take over the fighting--so our troops can be redeployed within a reasonable time period.
Furthermore, unlike Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, I will listen to the advice of our military leaders on the ground in Iraq when it comes to training Iraqi troops.
As our troops begin to return home, Democrats can demonstrate leadership by focusing on the important problems we need to be solving: expanding access to healthcare, ensuring our national security, decreasing our dependence on foreign oil by increasing production of renewable energy, increasing the minimum wage, and giving women the freedom to make personal medical decisions with her doctor free from government interference, to name a few.
The road to winning back the House begins in the First District of Iowa. I urge you to visit my campaign website, sign up for email updates, or contribute to my campaign.
