That, folks, is the exact headline used by Lou Dobbs in his
latest blog entry. Obviously the answer is "YES! I've been doing it for YEARS!" but this is more in regards to Bush's "commitment" to xenophobic border security.
President Bush continues to push his guest worker program and amnesty for anywhere between 11 million and 20 million illegal aliens, and he insists still that nothing less than what he calls comprehensive immigration reform is acceptable.
And the lies keep coming from both political parties. This president is not enforcing the immigration laws enacted by Congress, and this Congress is failing in its duty of oversight to demand that those laws be followed.
Only a fool, Mr. President, Senator Kennedy, Senator McCain, would believe you when you speak of new legislation. You don't enforce the laws now.
More on the flip.
This argument could be transplanted to every single screw-up this "Administration" has committed. Enforce the FISA laws. Enforce the 4th Amendment. Enforce the ban on torture. Enforce your promise to fire people involved in leaking Valerie Plame's real job.
But how bad is Bush's record on enforcing the current immigration laws?
But here is the official record of your sense of duty: 318 employers out of five and a half million in this country have been fined for hiring illegal aliens since 2001. In 2004, only three employers were fined. That is a dismal record, Mr. President, as dismal as the fact that the number of ICE agents assigned to enforce immigration laws in the workplace has declined from only 240 back in 1999 to now less than 100.
In all of 2004, THREE fines were given for employing illegal immigrants. Just think of how many more days you (Bush) could have spent in Iraq if you had decided to enforce your own laws. You could fine small businesses and corporations up the wazoo!
The truth of the matter is this Administration could care less about living up to its responsibility of executing the laws as passed by Congress. Congress doesn't seem too keen on living up to their part of the Constitution either. The Judiciary has tried, but conservatives want to make them as ineffective as the other two branches of government.
Lou, this is the fault of you and your ilk at CNN, MSNBC, etc. For five years you've been nothing but cheerleaders and are still at least 8 months behind the intelligence of the rest of the country who has given up on ths President and this Congress and are looking for something better. Some of your peers at CNN still appear to be 2 or 3 years behind the rest of the country.
If all you want to call Bush on is immigration, then you're just as much of a cheerleader as any Republican out there.
