Senator John Kyl on the NSA spying on all Americans:
"This is nuts," Kyl said. "We are in a war and we've go to collect intelligence on the enemy, and you can't tell the enemy in advance how you are going to do it. And discussing all of this in public leads to that."
The Fourth Amendment:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Dear Senator Kyl,
As an elected representative of this great country, you took an oath, a solemn oath, to uphold the Constitution and the laws of the land. In reading your comments however, I see that you believe that laws are made to be broken, Americans are not to be trusted, and that we should simply accept the fact that we are no longer a nation of free people.
My father fought in the Korean war. My uncles fought in World War II. My cousins fought in Viet Nam. My relatives are fighting in Iraq. My family and friends and business partners are not the "enemy" as you opine in your arrogant disregard for your constituents. My family and friends are the people who sacrificed and risked thier lives so that YOU and everyone else would be able to continue to live a free society. My friends and my family risked their lives for an idea, and idea enshrined in the words of the Constitution of the United States of America, one that says we have the right to be free.
But you Mr. Kyl, you choose to toss it all away in a cavalier fashion, as though the only thing that matters is you and your political party. Well Mr. Kyl, hear this:
I an American Citizen. I value the rights and freedoms we have in this country. I believe with all my soul in the ideas espoused in the Constitution. So I have a statement for you senator:
The Constitution: You're either with it, or you're with the terrorists.
Tell me Senator, which side are you on?
