"Flat-out, completely, horizontally opposed to CAFTA..."
That was our current Representative's promise to North Carolina's 8th District last summer in the weeks, days and hours leading up to his 'Yea' vote to send our working families' livelihoods south of the border as he crumbled to Presidential arm-twisting.
Now when our struggling seniors are facing a Monday deadline to avoid the Privatization Tax this President and Republican-led Congress sought to impose on our most vulnerable with its Medicare Prescription boondoggle, its past time for Robin Hayes to call in those promised favors for his trade flip-flop.
Mr. Hayes, do your job. Demand President Bush extend the Medicare Prescription Drug deadline.
My opponent, Robin Hayes, voted for the Republican Medicare Prescription Drug Bill which was strongly supported by President Bush. Hayes' vote made sweeping changes to Medicare that will give billions of dollars to drug companies, while forcing seniors to accept annual increases in premiums and deductibles. Additionally, the new Medicare plan has no provision to avoid dramatic increases in prescription costs charged by drug companies.
Robin Hayes has been there for President Bush time and again representing his interests in Congress, now it's time for Hayes to call in a favor from the President and represent us for a change.
Monday May 15th is the deadline for seniors to sign up for the new Medicare prescription drug plan. Many have complained about the complex government paperwork that must be filled out in order to take advantage of the new benefit. We need to make sure that those who want to sign up have an adequate chance to review the forms in order to make an informed decision.
The new Medicare Part D Prescription Drug program may be a golden parachute for the drug companies and HMOs without provisions for price negotiations, but it's all our seniors have right now.
Stand with me in asking Rep. Robin Hayes to call in those Presidential favors for his support of the bad trade deals ruining our economy and extend the deadline for our seniors.
Answering to us, not the President, is his job.
I'm Larry Kissell, Democratic candidate for Congress in North Carolina's 8th District.
