already presented this topic but I have a link where the TV stations have responded and a link about the FCC starting an investigation.
More below:
Briefly, Companies and the government make tv commercials called VNR, Video News Release, styled as TV news stories and pay TV news programs to run them during their news broadcast as if it was ordinary, locally produced news. FCC rules require that tv viewer must be made aware of the sources of such "news" and that was not happening.
KingOneEye has a diary on this from April.

The FCC on May 25, announced it doing an investigation.

I am glad we have the internet as the tv main stream media is hardly going to highlight this problem.
The comments from the station directors are priceless.

They mostly said "Oops" or "Huh?" lol Even the stations that used fake news repeatedly and distributed it around the country were unrepentent.
There were fake news stories from the government being played on local news programs telling us that President Bush is doing good things and helping us. I wonder if his poll ratings started to drop after those segments were taken off the airwaves.
Some of the FCC rules are good and important. IMHO
