My father was big into Memorial Day. After 25 years in the US Navy, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. He received a Purple Heart for combat wounds in Korea. When I graduated from the Naval Academy, he saluted me, but it went downhill from there. Vietnam turned me from a 'yes sir' kind of guy into a radicalized young officer. My father didn't like my attitude. I didn't like the fact that my friends were dying in Southeast Asia.
From Wikipedia: Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action.
On this particular Memorial Day, you'll find lots of waxing poetic about the deaths of military men and women. In my case, the verse is dark, colored by outrage at our president and his handlers. They are cowards of the highest order, cowards who send others to die for no good reason.
