I have a message for NPR from this "Progressive". Please report the "news" and quit spinning the news to represent the DLC!
An analysis of the Winograd/Harman piece they ran this morning is below the fold...
This morning I awoke to an NPR story about the Harman and Winograd race. Since I have been following this race along with everybody else on DailyKOS I was very excited to hear a story about it on NPR. It started out fine. You had Harmon at a meeting presenting her side, the usual sell out stuff to special interests. Along the lines of "I have all the special interests lined up behind me. Naral. Unions. Teachers. Etc." They even bring up the fact that she drives a hybrid and has solar panels on her roof!
Then comes our hero saying,
"I will introduce legislation to impeach Bush and Cheney."
To THUNDEROUS applause!
Winograd then goes on to say, in what sounds like a private interview, "What the people are having trouble with in the 36th district, and, well beyond, throughout the country, is the fact that there is a great chasm, a huge disconnect between the leadership of the Democratic party and those on the ground. Not just Democrats, but decline to state and Republicans, who feel disenfranchised, as thought their voice has been cut out."
So far so good...
Then comes the sellout.
NPR then talks with a "long time Democratic consultant" Gary South, who says:
"If we Democrats want to apply an across the board litmus test on so-called Progressive Issues to every Democrat running in every seat in America we will never control the House of Representatives and we will never take the United States Senate back. That's just the reality."
I ask NPR this: Who elected Gary South? If he has been so good for the Democratic party then why are we not WINNING elections?
Gary South doesn't represent the Democratic Party. He represents the fear of losing that many Democratic Voters (and candidates) have. I call on NPR to AT A MINIMUM call on a Progressive leader (Are you hearing this KOS?) that could respond to this "consultant".
Now I understand the comments I have been reading talking about the "NPR Democrats". This story shows the true meaning of that term. It is DLC Democrat!
It is time to have leaders that listen to the people. We can start by not listening to the consultants that have lost us election after election after election in the past.
It is time to visualize winning and work to get there with the candidates that the people choose! Not some consultant.
UPDATE: Turns out that Mr. South is a former consultant for Joe Lieberman. Also, Harman IS a member of the DLC.
