I just had a diary deleted without my approval for the possible reason that someone had complained that it was too short, even though it included a poll. I do not know who deleted it or what their exact reason was. I would feel better about this if the person who deleted my diary had the guts to tell me who they are and why they did it.
I have been posting for a relatively short time here (about 6 months) and feel that I have made a little contribution and hopefully made some people laugh at some of my more snarky posts. However, I am seriously considering whether or not to spend any more time on the Daily Kos site, even though I think it is a valuable resource for political discussion. If I choose to leave this site my reason will be a very simple one. I have serious questions as to whether or not Daily Kos lives up to its image as a free market of ideas and is run on democratic principles. (more below the fold)
It seems to me that Daily Kos may be more of an authoritarian run enterprise that sometimes functions on the cult of personality. I have no interest in a discussion group that is run as a caste system or in bowing to any high priest.
If I do leave I doubt if I will be missed. However, I think it would be useful for everyone here to take a look at the structure that Daily Kos is operating under and decide if this is the best way to go forward for a group that expresses democratic ideals.
