Update: Title Changed based on suggestion in the comments.
I'm a lurker who has long wanted to stop being a lurker. Due to a number of factors, including the feeling that what I have to say has already been better said, and that I can't post from work, I haven't managed much of that.
First off a big congratulations to everyone involved with and attending YearlyKos. I wasn't able to attend, but I did watch what I could on C-Span, and it was really impressive and inspiring.
Now, the reason I'm posting is an attempt to tap the brains of everyone here. I will be moving to NYC at the end of August. I was born and raised in NYC and have only been out of it for about 10 months, so I don't need help on what to do in the city per se. But here's the thing. Having been a reader and lurker of dailyKos for a little less than a year now, I have become much more politically aware, and much more interested in making a difference in the political process. In addition to any volunteer activities I could participate in, I'd be very interested in suggestions for ways that I could find a paying job in progressive Democratic politics?
Obviously, I'm young, and not particularly experienced in the political arena, all though I do have some fairly useful nonprofit experience, so I'm looking for fairly low level things.
When I look on job search sites most of the options tend to be working for one organization or another, standing on street corners, asking people to give money, then being paid based on what you take in. I'm not looking for that. I'm sure it's valuable, but it's definitely something other people can do better than I.
So, it seems like collectively you all have the answers to everything. Any suggestions for me?
