Mike Farrell has a pretty good
guest blog up on Crooks + Liars about the Gitmo suicides. I'm mostly interested because it closes a circle of references that have been bouncing around in my head for the last few days: Pete Seeger singing "Guantanamera"; the Gitmo suicides; the song "Suicide Is Painless" (especially as recently covered by Keren Ann and LadyBird) - theme song to the movie M*A*S*H, directed by Robert Altman, whose son Mike wrote the words to the song; the new Robert Altman movie, "Prairie Home Companion", with its American-folk-song anti-Texan anti-war liberal elements and cast including Meryl Streep of "Deer Hunter" fame; and finally the TV series M*A*S*H, whence Mike Farrell. Funny how these things echo.
