I usually hate talking about myself in the third person, but Frank Popper filmed a movie by that title about my run for Congress in 2004 I ran to replace Dick Gephardt in Missouri's 3rd District in a ten person field and came to within 1800 votes of winning the primary.
Frank's film is opening at Silverdocs in DC, but it sold out in 20 minutes, I did want to let the Kos Community know about a special screening a friend of mine is putting on Friday, June 16th. Below is the invitation my friend Margie sent out about the screening and fundraiser. I'd love it if you could join us at the event.

Hi!
Now that the holiday weekend is over, I know everyone is coming back to work with the question, "How can I squeeze a little more politics into my social life? When I do go out socially, it's with people I know through politics, and we talk about politics, but is there some activity or something that is a little-more politics focused than going to Russia House/Poste/Café Milano/Lounge 201/whatever is in MD or VA?"
Well, I have got just the thing! One of my clients this cycle, Jeff Smith, ran for Congress in Missouri in 2004 (3rd District, now represented by Russ Carnahan). Smith ran as a progressive, with a field-intensive campaign, and completely exceeded handicappers' expectations. His campaign was
interesting and unique enough that filmmaker Frank Popper decided to make a documentary about it. The film turned out so good it was accepted at the AFI/Silverdocs festival, where it will make its world premiere the same night. However, the movie is also so good that tickets sold out in 20 minutes, so your only chance to see it is at a private screening at my house early Friday evening. Here are the details:
Friday, June 16
6-8ish PM
Movie starts @ 6:30 (no previews, but still show up even if you think you missed the first bit)
Free drinks & light food
1406 21st Street, NW (between (O & P)
Washington , DC
202-255-5644
This will be a good time! The movie is good! We'll have booze! And outdoor seating! We have a silly number of televisions & places to sit! Both the candidate & the filmmaker will be there! And you'll know other people there! What swanky happy hour venue promises all this?
But here's the important part: Jeff Smith is now running for State Senate in Missouri, and so this is not only a movie screening but also a fundraiser, so you'll need to donate to his campaign. No exceptions, even for those who think they are on the VIP list at the Omero/Wines house.
RSVPs, as always, are incredibly appreciated, even if it's to say "maybe."
Margie
