Hey there everyone. I figured you'd all like an update on how things are going for us as we rebuild everything over here, so I'm going to give you one.
We've moved almost all our stuff out of the old half of the duplex and either into storage or into the other half. All that's left is a few boxes and the 180 gallon fish tank that's in the living room (a different fishtank was in my office). I thought we were going to have a little breathing room to find a new place to live while staying on this side of the house, but it turns out that they're going to start ripping stuff up and rebuilding on the other side of the house on Monday. This wouldn't be so bad except that I need to find somewhere to move my giant fish tank, and the fact that one of the first things they're going to need to do is tear out the ceilings, which is bad because there's asbestos in it. Fortunately, it was never an issue while we lived there since it was inert, but once you start tearing that stuff out... In other words, we need to find somewhere else even quicker than I thought we did. Alas.
In other news, I should also hopefully be meeting with the Geico adjuster on Monday or so so he can look over my stuff that was destroyed. Hopefully that side of things will go smoothly.
Finally, I'd like to offer my thanks to the entire DailyKos community. I've received many emails from people with lawyer referrals, offers of computer equipment, and general showings of support. I haven't been able to respond to many of them, but know that I have read them and that they are appreciated. I now have the services of an attorney, so I'm OK on that front, and I don't even have anywhere to put any extra computer stuff right now. I'm incredibly lucky that I have this laptop that I brought with me to Vegas, though, or else I would have needed to take folks up on the computer stuff.
I have been overwhelmed by everyone's support and generosity. You have all been so helpful to us as we're rebuilding our home and lives, and I cannot express how much it means to me. Things are slowly settling back to something that isn't normal, but at least is less stressful. Thank you all, each and every one of you. As always, I'll do my best to keep you all posted.
Update [2006-6-16 16:27:40 by ct]: Yeah, forgot to mention that I misheard my wife say that they definitely didn't think that they were not responsible. The Geico guy actually that they weren't sure what their responsibilty was. We'll see what happens soon enough. Sorry about that.
